Alrina
Freighter built 1889 as Iron sailing Ship ARMAND by J&K Smit, Kinderdijk for G van der Wielen, Druten. As built had two masts, two lee boards, later removed. From launch served as towed vessel. 503tns. Sold 1909 to J C T G Hompus and in 1937 to his son P J Hompus. Rebuilt 1946 as single screw motor barge. MAN diesel. Tonage reduced to 481.6. Oct 1955 deutz-Diesel fitted. 310hp. Bought 1970 by A Korsten. Renamed ALRINA. Overhauled 1971. New tonnage 515. General purpose cargoes inc cattle fodder, fertilizers, gravel and coal.

The stamp design is made after a photo taken on the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal, the canal from Amsterdam to the River Rhine. The type of vessel was a common sight on Dutch canals and waterways.
Built as an iron inland sailing vessel in 1889 by J & K Smit at Kinderdijk near Rotterdam, for G.v.d. Wielen at Druten, a small village some 12 miles east of Rotterdam, on the River Waal.
Launched as the ARMAND.
Tonnage 515 tons, dim. 52.43 x 8.25 x 2.01m.(draught).
Carried leeboards and two masts.
After completing only used as a towed barge.
1909 Sold to J.C.T.G Hompus, at Raamsdonk. she was registered in Rotterdam in 1920.
The leeboards and mast were removed in 1919 and 1922 respectively.
1937 Mr. P.J.Hompus at Rotterdam bought the ARMAND from his father.
1948 Was she rebuilt as a motor-vessel fitted out with150 hp MAN diesel, her tonnage was reduced to 481.6 tonnes.
October 1955 the MAN diesel was replaced by a stronger Deutz diesel of 310 hp.
1970 Sold to Albert Korsten in Rotterdam and renamed ALRINA which is a combination of parts of the first names of the owner himself and his wife.
1971 The hatch coaming was heightened, which enlarged her tonnage to 515 tons.
In 1976 her wooden hatches were replaced by a tarpaulin covering, which is very well to be seen on the stamp.
You could meet the ALRINA on all Dutch and Belgium waterways, where her dimensions admit this, made also sometimes voyages to Germany.
Used mostly to carry bulk cargo like cattle fodder, fertilizer, gravel, coal and general cargo.
2003 Was she sold to Kraków, Poland not renamed.
She sailed to Krakau via the inland waterways and after arrival there was she converted in a restaurant.
