The Portuguese Timor stamp shows the frigate Almirante Gago Coutinho, built by Estaleiros Navais Lisnave, Lisbon. She is of the "Almirante" Class, displacing 1,450 tons. Length is 314 ft. x 37 ft. x 14 ft. Guns are four 3M. 50 cal. and she is fitted with two Bofors 4 barrelled mortars for anti-submarine warfare as well as two depth charge throwers. She has six torpedo tubes (two triple). Her main engines are De Laval double-reduction geared turbines of 20,000 s.h.p. driving a single shaft, at 26 knots. Cruising radius is 4,500 miles at 15 knots. Ship's complement is 52 officers and 554 men. Laid down on December 2, 1963, she was launched on August 30, 1965; and completed on August 8, 1967. The stamp also shows the portrait of the admiral after whom the vessel was named and commemorates the centenary of his birth.
