Built as a cruise vessel under yard No 2050 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works at Nagasaki-City, Japan, for Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), Tokyo.
16 April 1990 keel laid down.
06 April 1991 launched under the name ASUKA.
Tonnage 28.717 grt., 2.248 dwt., dim. 192.82 x 24.70 x 6.20m. (draught)
Powered by two 7-cyl. MAN-Mitsubishi 7L58/64 diesel engines, 23.400 bhp. (17.314 kW), twin controllable pitch propellers, speed 21 knots.
1 Bow thruster forward, 1.300 kW.
Bunker capacity 2.001 m³.
Accommodation for 584 passengers in 292 cabins, crew 270.
23 October 2001 completed.

She was built for the cruise market from Japan.
24 December 1991 she made her maiden voyage from Yokohama to Taiwan.
Thereafter cruises in East Asian waters and to Australia and New Zealand.
27 February 2006 renamed in AMADEA.
03 April 2006 transferred to Amadea Shipping Co. Ltd., Nassau Bahamas, managed also by this company, and chartered by Phoenix Reisen, Germany.
Passenger accommodation now given as 618.

On Malta 2000 6c sg?, scott 1003.


2007 As given by http://www.equasis.org. IMO No. 8913162, tonnage now 28.856 grt. 10.371 net, 3.938 dwt., same owner and manager, under Bahamas flag and registry.

The AMADEA is the vessel with the blue funnel, and the ship on the left of the stamp.
The stamp is designed after a photo taken on 18 february 2008.
