n 1771, Nicolas Marion Dufresne received two flutes, MASCARIN and MARQUIS de CASTRIES. Sailing south from Capetown they discovered Austral Islands Iles Froides and Ile Arides. The First Mate was Julien Crozet.
After a call in Tasmania they landed in New Zealand where Marion Dufresne was killed after a three month stay.
