Built as a research ship/stern trawler under yard No 290 by At. & Ch. C. Aroux at Arachon, France for Centre National pour l’Exploration des Oceans (CNEXO).
08 Feb. 1970 launched under the name CRYOS.
Tonnage 598 gross, 164 net, dim. 48.7 x 10.01 x 4.014/4.25m., length between pp. 41.4m.
Powered by two Duvant 6VOM diesels, each 690 hp., speed maximum 13, service speed 11 knots.
Range 5.800 miles by 11 knots. Average fuel consumption 5.8m³ a day. Bunker capacity 154m³.
Ice–strengthened.
Crew 23 and 12 scientists.

She has been used by the Institut Francais pour la Recherche en Mer et l’Exploitation des resources (IFREMER) for research into cold water fishing.
After the spring 1991, laid up at Saint-Nazaire.
1993 Bought by the Government of Libya, and managed by the Marine Biological Research Center at Tripoli. Renamed RV NOUR.
Used by Libya as a fishery research vessel in the Mediterranean.
2009 Same name and owners.
