General Mangin
Built in 1953 by Ch. & Atelier de St Nazaire, at Penhoet, for Cie de Nav Frassinet et Cyprien Fabre, of Marseilles. Gross tonnage 12,547, n6,741. dwt 5,942. Length 531’6” beam64’8” d22’9”. Twp Burmeister & Wain diesels gace her a speed of 16 knots, the motors developing 9,600 b.h.p. The liner was transferred to Comp. de Nav. Paquet et Nouvelle, of Marseilles, in 1965 and was sold to Philippine President Lines inc., of Manila, in 1969. She was renamed President. When built she carried 800 passengers in four classes (Dahomey, 1971, 100F, SG440).

Built as a passenger- cargo vessel under yard No R 14 by Atelier & Chantiers de St Nazaire at Penhoet for the Cie de Navigation Fraissinet, Marseille.
09 July 1952 launched as the GENERAL MANGIN.
Tonnage 12,457 gross, 6,741 net, 5,942 dwt, dim. 162.1 x 19.72 x 6.94m.
Powered by two B&W diesels engines, 9,600 bhp, speed 16 knots. Twin shafts.
Passenger accommodation for 864 passengers in four classes.
Three decks.
March 1953 delivered to owners.
Built for the passenger and cargo service between France and the west coast of Africa.
1956 Transferred to Cie de Navigation Fraissinet & Cyprien Fabre, Marseille.
1965 Sold to Nouvelle Cie de Paquetsbots, Marseille, not renamed.
1969 Sold to the Philippine President Lines Inc., Philippine, renamed in PRESIDENT.
Under this name she operated between Manila and Hong Kong.
1972 Sold to Cie de Nav. Abeto S.A. Panama, renamed EASTERN QUEEN.
1974 Withdrawn from her regular service and transferred to the pilgrim trade between Indonesia and other Far Eastern Muslim countries to Saudi Arabia.
1977 Sold to Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Chittagong, Bangladesh, renamed HIZBUL BAR.
Tonnage given as 11,684 gross. Used in the service between Chittagong to Dubai.
1981 Sold to the Bangladesh Navy, renamed SHAHEED SALAMUDDIN, in use as an accommodation ship.
27 June 1986 arrived by the ship breaker Karnafuli Metal Works, Chittagong for scrapping.
