Carracciolo

The steam corvette Caracciolo, laid down in 1865 under the name of Brillante.. While the ship was still in dock being built it was decided to change her name and she was launched as the Caracciolo in 1869. Her displacement was 1,670 tons, and dimensions 64.30 x 10.94 x 5.09m. As a steamship she achieved a speed of nine knots. Entering service in 1870, from 1871 to 1873 she was command ship of the American Meridion; from 1881 to 1884 she made a circumnavigation of the globe, during which she charted the Straits of Magellan. She became a schoolship, 1895 to 1907, when she was deleted from the Navy List. SG1526
