RAWSON

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:22 pm

She was built by the yard of C.R.D. Adriatico, Monfalcone, Italy for Departamento Nacional de Higiene de Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentine.
Launched under the name RAWSON.
Tonnage 295 gross, 91 net, dim. 35-meter long 25.4 ft. beam.
Powered by a 6-cyl oil engine, manufactured by MacColl & Pollock Ltd., Leghorn, Italy.
October 1930 delivered to owners.

She was a dispatch vessel for a public service of the Argentinean Government.
Between 1945 and 1972 was she used from the port of La Boca to the Ponton Interseccion (Intersection Pontoon) a pontoon anchored in the Rio de La Plata, she carried then a committee in charge of controlling that the ships arriving from overseas were fit (cleared) to continue to Buenos Aires or La Plata ports or to continue their journey through the Parana- and Uruguay river.
She was registered by the Prefecture Naval Argentina with the code GC41.
The service for which the RAWSON was used came to an end many years ago, thanks to new systems introduced to communicate between the ships and the Port Authorities.
The pilots to board arriving vessels sometimes used her together with the committee. Mr. Rosner used her many times in the time he was a pilot at Buenos Aires.
1972 Was she waiting for scrapping.
