SALIHREIS TCG (F-246) frigate

Built as a frigate by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg for the Turkish Navy
24 July 1996 laid down.
26 Sept. 1997 launched under the name SALIHREIS (F246) one of the Barabaros class of which four were built, BARBAROS and SALIHREIS by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg, ORUCREIS and KEMALREIS by Gölcük at Kocaeli, Turkey.
Displacement 3.380 ton full load, dim. 118 x 14.8 x 4.3m.
Powered by CODOG: 2 GE LM 2500 gas turbines, 60.000 hp, 2 MTU 16V 1163 TB83 diesels, 11.780hp., twin shafts speed 32 knots.
Range 4.100 mile against 18 knots.
Armament: 1 – 127mm gun, 3 Oerlikon-Contraves 25mm. Missiles 8 McDonnell Douglass Harpoon launchers. Mk 41 VLS launchers. 6 – 324mm torpedo tubes.
One helicopter S-70B Seahawk or 1 AB 212ASW. The helicopter has Sea Skua anti ship missiles.
Crew 187 under which 22 officers, plus 9 aircrew and 8 spare.
Commission 17 Dec. 1998.

The class was an improvement of the Yavuz class, including such as CODOG machinery for higher top speed.
All vital areas of the machinery are protected with Halon 1301 fire fighting system.
Most of these ships of this class are protected against NBC by a citadel. The ships have a pre-wash capability against fallout.
They have very modern command communication control and information (C31) systems. The integration of ASIST helicopter landing aid system enables this class to operate Seahawk helicopters.
Their construction was delayed by freezing of German funds by the German Government.
Extensive damage occurred during a real firing naval exercise accident on 9 June 2000.
