As early as 1934 the ferries on the Little Belt were replaced by bridges, and on 1 June 1997 one of the biggest building projects ever in Denmark was inaugurated, the opening of the railway section of the Great Belt Fixed Link between Sealand and the rest of Denmark.
The road bridge between Sprongø and Sealand was opened in 1998.
To mark the demise of the Denmark Post transport by ferry between Copenhagen and Fredericia, Denmark issued on 12 June 1997 a 5.00 Kr stamp showing a mailtrain being loaded onto one of the three identical trainferries in service.
The one used for the design of the stamp is the DRONNING INGRID.
She was built under yard No 1418 by Helsingørs Værft A/S, Denmark for the Danske Statsbaner, Korsør, Denmark.

01 April 1999 sailed from Nakskov to Newcastle to be converted in a hospital vessel.
04 April 2000 renamed in AFRICA MERCY.
Work has commenced on her but it is much ‘as when funds are available’.
She has bounced from one shipyard to another on the River Tyne but much of this has been to do with the closure of ship repair yards on the Tyne.
Towards the end of 2004 she was in dry dock at Wallsend but this yard has now been mothballed and she is now (2005) sitting at the Hebburn repair yard which is on the south side of the River Tyne.
March 2007 trials after her refit.
She was then the largest non-governmental hospital ship, with accommodation for 474 crew. She has six operation rooms and a 78 bed ward.
04 May 2007 sailed from the U.K. bound for Liberia via Rotterdam.
