Chandpara

The Chandpara (1.25 Rls.) is a motorship of 7,274 gross tons, 4,154 net, built by Barclay, Curle and Co. Ltd., at Whiteinch, in 1949 for British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd.
Dimensions are 465.4 x 62.9 x 27.7 ft. and her length is 484.5 ft. Engines are of the Doxford opposed piston solid injection type, giving a speed of 14'/2 knots. The Chandpara was launched from the Clydeholm yard on July 8, 1949. This ship was one of a series of nine high-class cargo liners constructed between 1949 and 1952, the others being the Carpentaria (1949), Chindwara (1950), Chilka (1950) Chantala (1950) Chakdara (1951), Chakdina (1951), Chakrata (1952) and Chinkoa (1952). These vessels were built for use on all the various B.I. services.
