Built under yard no 1107 by the Bremer Vulkan yard at Bremen-Vegesack, Germany for Coasta Grociere SpA, Genova, (Costa Cruises), Italy. She was ordered late 1993. A consortium of yards, namely Bremer Vulkan, Lloyd Werft at Bremerhaven and Schichau Seebeckwerft and STN Atlas Elektronik, built her, the sections were assembled at the Bremer Vulkan yard at Vegesack.
05 September 1995 floated out of the drydock and towed to Bremerhaven for outfitting.

She was ordered together with a sistership by the Costa Cruises by the Bremer Vulkan shipyard, but when the yard got in financial difficulties the second ship was never delivered to Costa Cruises, but taken over by Norwegian Cruises and completed as NORWEGIAN SKY under a revised specification.

According to published reports, Europe’s finest designers and architects spared neither effort nor expense in creating the cruise ship COSTA VICTORIA.
Fielding’s Cruise Guided rated her with five stars, and Cruise reports named her among their pick of Top 10 Ships.
COSTA VICTORIA’s passenger decks are named for different Italian operas including a Pompei Spa, with a tranquil indoor pool and mosaic-tile columns. Turkish bath, gymnasium, and luxury spa treatments. The Festival Show Lounge, Concord Plaza, Rock Star Disco, Orpheus Grand Bar, and Monte Carlo Casino, the COSTA VICTORIA promises a luxury floating vacation for its patrons. She is employed in eastern and western Caribbean cruises in the winter, and the Mediterranean in the summer months.
