The destroyer Harbin was built by the Jiangan Shipyard for the Chinese Navy.
1990 Laid down.
October 1991 launched under the name HARBIN (112).
Displacement 4.200 tons standard, 4.800 tons full load. Dim. 144 x 16 x 5.1m. (draught).
Powered by CODOG (112) 2 x General Electric LM 2500 gas turbines, 55.000 hp (41 MW) sustained. 1163TB83 diesels 8.840 hp (6.5MW) sustained; two shafts; CP props, speed 31 knots.
Action radius 5.000 miles against 15 knots.
Armament : Missiles, 8 YJ-8 (c-801) SSMs, four 2-cell launchers. SAM one 8-cell Crotale/HQ-7 SAM launcher. 2 - 100mm guns, 4 - 37mm AAA guns. Two torpedo tubes 324mm.
Mortars 2 FQF-2500 12 tubed fix launchers, 120 rockers.
Two Z-9C ASW helicopters, helicopter hangar and flight deck.
Crew 40 officers and 220 ratings.
Commissioned July 1994.
The Luhu Class (Type 052) missile destroyer are the most sophisticated Chinese built surface combatants in the PLA Navy, but are still absolute by Western standards.
The first truly multirole Chinese ships, they were designed by the China warship Design Institute.
Compared to the old Luda Class, this class represents a significant step forward in terms of weapon and electronic systems.
The HARBIN was the flagship of the PLAN North Sea Fleet. This ship and two other Chinese warships visited San Diego, Calf. On 21 March 1997 in the first ever visit by People’s Republic of China Navy ships to mainland US. The ships visited Hawaii on their way to Southern California for the second part of a goodwill visit between the US and Chinese navies.
