Built as a wooden paddle dispatch steamer by Money Wigram at Blackwall, London for the Italian Navy.
05 July 1862 laid down.
Feb. 1863 launched under the name ESPLORATORE.
Displacement 981 normal, 1220 full load. Dim. 71.77 x 9.14 x 3.62m.
Reciprocating steam engines, 1.681 ihp., speed 17 knots.
Endurance about 1840 mile by full speed.
Armament 2 – 4.7 inch muzzle loaded guns.
Three mast and schooner rigged.
Complement 125 in 1873 and 193 in 1891.
August 1863 completed

Wigram designed her and her sistership the MESSAGGIERE, and the ESPLORATORE was one of the fastest ships of her time, and was used as a scout during the war of 1866.
Rebuilt and relaunched on 04 March 1873.
1877 Reboilered.
From 1873 armament of 2 – 75mm and from 1891 4 – 57mm.
1888 Used as a local defence ship at Venice.
25 April 1895 she was redesignated GM 10 and used as a depot ship
Broken up 1907/08
