CONCORDIA tall ship

Built as a steel yacht by Colod Co. Ltd. Szczecin, Poland for the West Island College International Inc. Montreal, Canada.
26 April 1992 launched as CONCORDIA.
Tonnage 413 grt, 123 net, dim. 58.1 x 9.44 x 4.03m. (draught)
One auxiliary 12-cyl.MAN diesel engine 313kW.,
Barkentine rigged, sail area 900 square meters.
Crew 16 and 48 trainees.

She was special designed and built for Class Afloat, as a floating college for students of natural science and politics who are sailing as trainees with the CONCORDIA.

She makes long voyages and in 2004 one around the world, takes part in Tall Ship sail regattas.

2009 She is one of the participants in the Tall Ship race Atlantic Challenge 2009, which started in Vigo in May 2009 and the race will call at the following ports, Tenerife, Bermuda, Charleston, Boston, Halifax and then across the North Atlantic where the fleet will arrive in Belfast around the middle of August.

2009 In service, same name and owners, IMO No. 1001269. Registered in Barbados with homeport Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.

19 February 2010; she capsized during high seas in a position 550 km southeast of Rio de Janeiro whereafter she sank.
The 48 students and 16 teachers and crew were all rescued by merchant ships.
