SANKT GALLEN paddle steamer

Built as a paddlesteamer by Escher Wys & Cie at Zurich for the Schweizerische Bundesbahnen ( Swiss Railways).
Launched under the name ST GALLEN (II) one sister RHEIN (III)
Displacement 269 ballast, 325 loaded. Dim. 57.0 x 13.2 x 2.65m, length on the waterline 54.0m., draught 1.29/1.41m. ballast/loaded.
One two cyl compound steam engine 600 hp., speed 27.8 km/hr.
Passenger 750.
Homeport Romanshorn, Switserland.
1905 In service.

Used in the service on the Bodensee (Lake Constance), she was the first of two new buildings for the Swiss railways after the takeover of the Nordostbahn (Northeast railway).
1931 Rebuild from a half saloon ship to a two-deck saloon ship at the Bodanwerft at Kressbronn. Thereafter could carry 600 passengers.
During World War II she and her sister were the only ships in service between Bodensee Swiss lake ports.
During the winter of 1952/53 refitted from coal to oil firing.
04 Sept. 1960 she made her last voyage, and was taken out of service the next day.
Early October 1960 she was scrapped at Romanshorn.
