PRINCE OF ORANGE packet ship

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Oct 19, 2009 8:48 pm

Have not any detail on the packet ship PRINCE OF ORANGE.
She was sailing between Harwich and Holland when on 7 May 1777 she was captured in the North Sea by the Continental Lugger SURPRISE (or SURPRIZE) under command of Captain Gustavus Conyngham during a short raiding voyage in the North Sea.
After his capture he sailed back to Dunkirk.
The French authorities afraid of problems with the British Government, seized the SURPRIZE and her prizes, handing the PRINCE OF ORANGE back to their owners.

Fate of the vessel unknown.
