RUMAILA tanker 1972

Built under yard No 165 as a tanker by Ast. Espanoles S.A.-Factoria de Matagorda at Matagorda, Spain for the Iraqi Oil Tanker Co., Basra, Iraq.
01 November 1971 launched under the name RUMAILA, named after a large oilfield in Iraq.
Tonnage 21.375 gross, 13.511 net, 36.330 dwt., dim 201.02 x 26.55 x 14.0m., draught 10.961m.
Powered by a 6-cyl. diesel engine, 13.800 bhp., one shaft, speed 16 knots.
February 1972 delivered to owners.

The stamps commemorate the 4th anniversary of the launching of RUMAILA, Iraq’s first oil tanker.
1991 She sank during the hostilities in Iraq. (Persian Gulf War 02 August 1990 till 28 February 1991.)
