After some complaints of captains and shipping owners over the inaccessibility of the Danube River between Isaccea and the Black Sea, in 1865 a new Inspection Service for the supervision of the Danube River was set up.
Two vessels were ordered by an English yard at South Shields, one a motor launch PRINCIPELE MJHAI (Prince Michael) and PRINTUL FERDINAND AL ROMANIEI (Prince Ferdinand of Romania) the later is depicted on the stamp.
Built-in 1897 as an inspection vessel under yard no 179 by J.P. Rennoldson & Sons Ltd., South Shield. U.K.
Tonnage 86 grt, 35nrt, dim. 29.87 x 4.9 x 2.95m.
A triple 3-cyl. 48 nhp engine manufactured by the builder, speed 12 knots.
Fate not known.
The inscription on the stamp “vas de supraveghere”, de name translated in English means supervision ship.
