CASTOR sealer 1886

Built in 1886 in Arendal, Norway for a Danish ship-owner in Copenhagen.
Launched under the name CASTOR.
Tonnage 318 gross.
Auxiliary steam engine.

1893 Was she bought by Chr. Christensen, Sandefjord for the purpose of sealing.
Participated in Captain C. A. Larsen second expedition under command of Captain Morten Pedersen, for finding right whales in Antarctic waters.
Other vessels in this expedition where the JASON under command of C.A. Larsen, HERTA under command of Captain Carl Julius Evensen, and the supply ship ØRNEN under command of Captain Carl Englund, altogether about 100 men were on the four ships.
The expedition discovered a series of new islands and new land such as Foyn Land, Chr. Christensen Island and King Oscar II Land.
They found more fossils, but did not find any right whales this time either.

October 1896 the CASTOR disappears off Cape Farewell in Greenland, thought that she has hit an iceberg, her crew of 25 men lost.
