SHAH ALLUM. Dhow. A muscat baghia owned by Sultan Seiyid Sa'id. A most costly type of dhow, richly
carved on the stem and quarter galleries. The dhow name 'Shah Allum' means 'Lord of the Waters', considered appropriate to its owners status. It carried the Sultan from Muscat to Zanzibar when he transferred his court in 1832. Map of the dhow's course can be seen as a back¬ground to the baghla in the stamp design.
