NOSSA SENHORA DO BOM SUCESSO

Built as a 3rd Rate two decks ship-of-the-line on the Naval Arsenal, Lisbon for the Portuguese Navy.
Constructed by Manuel Vicente Nunes.
May 1764 keel laid down.
13 June 1766 launched as the NOSSA SENHORA DO BOM SUCESSO.
Dim. 182 x 44 ft.
Armament 26 – 24pdrs., 34 – 12pdrs, 12 – 9pdrs. guns.
Crew 633.
24 July 1766 commissioned.

In 1766 she transported the first Captain-General to the Azores.
1780 Under command of Capt. Bernardo Rodrigues Esquivel, she took 6 million Cruzados in gold and cargo of the Spanish galleon BUEN CONSEJO aboard at Faial, Azores eluding several English corsairs en route home.
1784 Took part in the fleet sent to support the Spanish attack on Algiers. In this battle the city was so bombarded that the Algerian Dey asked Spain for peace, and from that time the Spanish ships and coast were for a long time free of attacks of Barbary corsairs.
1793 A unit of the fleet which fought against France in campaign of Roussillon.
1800 Out of service and rebuilt, again in service in 1806 under the name DOM JOAO DE CASTRO.
1807 Accompanied the Portuguese Royal family to Brazil, remaining there till sold in 1822.
The same year was she broken up.
