PERAHU KOTAK

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Nov 26, 2009 8:29 pm

The Malaysia Post has issue a set of three stamps and one Miniature Sheet in August 2005 who depicts traditional water transportation in that country.
The evolution of water transportation is highly due to the inventiveness of riverside dwellers whose livelihoods were largely dependent on the rivers. Their achievements should be noted.

PERAHU KOTAK (Box Boat)

PERAHU KOTAK is made of a simple structure, built of pieces of wood carvel-planked, strakes joined by edge nailing through notches cut into upper strakes, flat bottomed.
Propelled by oars.
Village folks used the PERAHU KOTAK in shallow sheltered waters of coastal rivers to carry goods and people.
