RAKIT BULUH (Bamboo Raft)
RAKIT BULUH is the term used in Malaysia for a raft of logs or bamboo poles. The most commonly used water transportation and used on rivers to transport produce and timber, or in quit waters as a houseboat.
Material lashed together with bark or wood-fiber ropes. Bamboo rafts have thicker ends, tapering towards the stern square at the bow with a long wooden peg run athwartships through holes in the poles.
When used to carry heavy loads 2 or 3 layers of poles may be bound together. Very large RAKIT BULUH can carry up to 450 kg of jungle produce. When transporting passengers, she has a built on temporary shelter for the passengers during the voyage.
Often poled from the bow and stern, length may exceed of 13 meters.
