Built as a corvette by Chantier, Brest for the French Navy.
1849 Keel laid down.
Launched as L’ AVENTURE.
Not a tonnage or dimensions given.
Armament 22 guns.
27 November 1852 commissioned.

Till 11 March 1854 in service at Brest.
April 1854 L’AVENTURE sailed under command of Captain Joseph Fidéle Eugéne du Bouzet (1805 – 1867) from France via Tahiti to New Caledonia.
15 April 1855 the L’AVENTURE and the sail ship DUROC left Nouméa for Ile des Pins, where she remains for some time.
27 April the order is given to sail for Britannia (now Maré), when the two ships left the road strong winds separated the two vessels, and forced the L’AVENTURE to return to Ill des Pins.
At 28 April, 02.40 in the morning she grounded on the Oupé reef (now named the Adventure reef) north of the Ill des Pins.
The L’AVENTURE was lost but all crew were saved.
A few days after the grounding Captain Du Bouzet send a rapport to Emperor Napoleon III about the grounding.
1856 He appears before a court-martial but is acquitted.

1975 the wreck was found by the crew of LE DUNKERQUOISE, a piece of 15 meters sits on the reef, covered in coral, while the other part has disappears from the steep reef.

One of the anchors found was presented to the Museum of Maritime History of New Caledonia.

Between 1853 and 1860, New Caledonia was under the Authority of the Governor of French Territories of Oceania at Tahiti.
From 18th January 1855 till 28th October 1856 Le Capitaine de vaisseau Du Bozet was Governor of the Territory.
