C.S. RECORDER was built as yard number 1906 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd. at Wallsend and de-livered in July 1954.
Her dimensions were: 103.76m x 13.77m x 5.64m (dr) x 8.31m (d).
Her tonnage was 3280 gt, 912 net and 2427 dwt. She reached a speed of 11 knots with her triple expansion steam engine of 2000 ihp.

Built as a cable layer under yard 1906 by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd., Low Walker, New Castle for the Cable & Wireless Ltd., London.
03 May 1954 launched as the RECORDER.
Tonnage 3,349 gross, 965 net, 2,605 dwt., dim. 103.76 x 13.77 x 8.31m., draught 5.64m.
Powered by triple expansion steam engines, manufactured by shipbuilder, 2200 hp., twin screws, speed 11 knots. (Trial speed 13 knots).
Accommodation for 122 persons.
Range about 10,000 miles.
July 1954 delivered.

She was capable of working in any depth of water and in any climate in which cables were laid.
Did have three cable tanks with a coiling capacity of about 21,000 cubic feet (about 420 miles of cable could be laid).
Her bow carried three cable sheaves.
She was built for repair work covering the area between Colombo, Sri Lanka to Vancouver, Canada.
By leaving the River Thames she came in collision with the Danish vessel URUGUAY where her stern was damaged after temporary repairs, she steamed to her builder for permanent repairs.

After repair first based at Gibraltar before she headed to Singapore.

1961 Recovered large parts of the cable between the USA and the Philippines abandoned and sold by her owner as scrap. The cable was later used for repair.
In 1964 she laid the shore ends at Jessleton, (now Kota Kinadalu) Sabah, Malaysia of the SEACOM cable.
1971 Carried out a route survey with the RETRIEVER (5) for the BRACAN cable.
1977 Laid the shore ends of the OLUHO cable at Luzon, Philippines and Hong Kong.

1986 Sold to Indonesian ship breakers, arrived 15 July 1986 in Jakarta.
08 October 1986 scrapping commenced.
