The Cap 33, featured on the 15p. stamp, is a ketch-rigged trimaran, having the very light displacement of only 9.6 tons, on an overall length of 52 ft. 9 in. This boat was sponsored by a well-known French brewery, her yachtsman being Jean-Marie Vidal, a chemist aged 29. The Cap33 was designed by M. Allegre. She was given the Sail No. 33 in the Trans-Atlantic Race in 1972 and was the third yacht to cross the finishing line in the official time of 17.40 B.S.T. on July 11, 1972, in the elapsed time of 24 days, 05 hours 40 minutes. Her multi-hull handicap corrected time was 17 days, 10 hours, 20 minutes.
