RESCUE RANGER

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:38 pm

This miniature sheet has already generated some discussion as to why a US tug would be going under Tower Bridge in London.

Next question is why a Great Lakes crew boat would be passing under what appears to be Brooklyn Bridge, when in all probability the boat has never left the Lakes. The image of the boat appears to have been taken during a crew change with the passengers all wearing red life jackets.

It would appear that SDAL (`stamp designer's artistic licence') has struck again. See source photo.

RESCUE RANGER
Built by Marinette Marine Corp., Marinette WI in 1958, this boat was used as a rescue craft (operated by volunteers in the 60's and 70's) and is now a work boat for Marinette Marine Corp. She is 38-ft. long x 11.42-ft. wide.

There is no mention of the vessel in the Marinette Marine shipbuilding list at:-
