Post by john sefton » Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:32 pm

"MARILYN ANNE" is a 3-mast schooner build in 1919 and is licensed to sail with guests.

The Schooner "MARILYN ANNE" was built in Marstal in 1919 for the shipping company Kromann and sailed between Denmark - Portuga - Newfoundland - Iceland under the name "Frem". The ship did also go to Tunisia, Morocco and South America.

The ship was sold to Skärhamn in Sweden in 1939 and sailed under the name "Vestvåg" in the northern part of Europe and under the 2nd world war on the Baltic Sea. After the war she was used for fishing at Iceland.

In 1958 she came back to Denmark and sailed under the name "Vest" of Aalborg with cement, coal, fertilizer and similar things.

An American bought the ship in 1968 and she was named "MARILYN ANNE". He tried to restore the ship, but had to give up in 1977.

The local authorities in Struer bought the ship and after a thorough restoration she was handed over to a company owned by the local authorities in Struer, Holstebro, Herning and Ringkøbing County authority. The ship is used as public school for youngsters who do not fit in on a normal public school.
