IMMIGRATION 1 or 2

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Jan 17, 2010 7:56 pm

In 2006 Hong Kong issued a set of 6 stamps showing Government Transport. The HK$5.00 shows an Immigration Department vessel.

In early 2007, two new immigration launches were to be delivered to the department. These vessels were due to replace two of the seven launches that have been in service for almost 20 years. They have been named "Immigration 1" and "Immigration 2". They are larger in size, 23.7 metres in length and 6 metres wide, and faster, travelling up to a speed of 25 knots, which will certainly enhance immigration clearance and enforcement operations at sea.

The stamp was issued in 2006, before the two vessels were built and I believe the stamp designer has used preliminary plans to illustrate the vessel. There are a number of differences between the completed boats and that shown on the stamp. However, I believe the stamp does show a representation of the two Immigration vessels.
