CAMPO DURAN tanker

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:35 pm

Built as a tanker under yard no 4324 by Italcantieri S.p.A. Castellammare di Stabia, Italy for the Government of the Argentine Republic, managed by Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales (YPF).
07 May 1975 laid down.
03 February 1976 launched under the name CAMPO DURAN named after an oil field of that name in Argentine.
Tonnage 18,013 gross, 10,665 net, 30,577 dwt, dim. 170.72 x 25.94 x 14.66m., draught 11.024m
Powered by two 6-cyl 4SA Fiat GMT Grandi Motori Trieste, 14,400 bhp, two controllable pitch propellers, speed 16.5 knots.
Tank capacity 36.430m³ in 14 tanks.
Crew 37.
14 October 1977 completed.
June 1978 in service.

She was one of the latest units build for Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales which was formed in 1921, a short time after the first oil was discovered in Argentine, and oil production commenced near Comodoro Rivadavia.
The company ordered 17 tankers, of which 13 were built on Argentinean yards and 4 on Italian yards.
The CAMPO DURAN was the third ship built in Italy, and the design was more modern and streamlined than the ships built in the years between 1940 - 1950 also the new design got a bulbous bow.
1993 Before the breakup of YPF, the CAMPO DURAN was transferred to Naviera Sur Petrolera S.A. belonging to the Sindicato Flota Petrolera Hidrocarburifera.
1997 Sold to Universal Eternity S.A., Panama, renamed CAMP AZUR.
The same Marine News gives CAMPO DURAN was reported sold and renamed CAMP AZUR. Although sold to foreign interest, it would seem that she was not renamed and is still operating under the Argentine flag and is now trading between Argentine and Brazilian ports.
She underwent general repairs at the Tsako shipyard at Montevideo, and then proceeded to Buenos Aires for hull blasting and painting at the Tandanor yard. She was then returned to service.
2000 Sold by Nav. Sur Petrolera S.A., Argentina to Mangrovia Shipping Co. Ltd., Malta, renamed ALDERAMINE, so it looks that the 1997 sale fell through. She was converted in a water tanker.
Noting more on her thereafter in Marine News.
http://www.equassis.org Gives for 2005 that she not more exist under IMO No 7400211, but I found on a web-site under her IMO No that she was renamed ERA in use as a water tanker, under the Cambodian flag, so it looks that she is not more in class.

25 January 2002 she arrived Alang, India for scrapping.
